SIGNA Sports United (SSU) North American Holding is firmly in growth mode.  In 2021, SSU entered the US market with the acquisitions of Tennis Express and Midwest Sports, two of the largest tennis platforms in the US. In December 2021, SIGNA Sports United successfully floated on to the New York Stock exchange and is now a publicly traded Company.  In February, we hired a seasoned industry leader and entrepreneur to lead the acceleration of our bike operations. Our growth has been propelled by acquiring new brands in leading sports businesses and scaling our current portfolio through our end-to-end e-commerce as-a-service solutions, connecting & enabling offline specialist retailers, and integrating with digital sports communities. Our tennis and bike teams along with the support of our Holding group, made up of Finance, Technology, and Human Resources, are leading SSU’s growth in the US. The part you’ll play

The Accounting Manager, reporting to the Controller, will lead accounting, treasury, and inventory control functions for SSU and its US business entities.  This role will be a key partner for leaders across the business and will primarily be responsible for leading the daily accounting operations, including the preparation and review of appropriate general ledger entries and reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger system, preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, and assisting with regulatory reporting as applicable. The right candidate will exhibit strong leadership skills along with prior experience in optimizing and improving existing processes, developing internal controls, and creating efficiencies through employee development and training.  The ideal candidate will be well-versed in US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and can independently manage daily financial matters end to end.  A successful candidate will research/navigate International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and be able to reconcile IFRS with US GAAP. They will ensure the proper prioritization and completion of all accounting functions including month-end account reconciliations, inventory accounting and management, and internal financial reporting.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees and coordinates the operations of the Accounting team by actively managing the team’s evolving priorities and related workload to meet goals and reporting requirements
  • Consistently manages risks and responds to challenges encountered that may negatively impact the team’s ability to meet goals
  • Manages period-end financial close and reporting processes to ensure the integrity of financial information and compliance with US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley; Lead the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate results
  • Establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a bi-weekly, monthly, and annual basis
  • Analyzes and interprets accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and cost management objectives
  • Performs necessary research to ensure proper accounting for unusual or complex transactions
  • Prepares ad hoc analyses and participates in special projects, as needed
  • Proactively identifies and initiates continuous improvement initiatives and helps drive continuous improvement initiatives to completion
  • Works closely with functional leaders to provide accounting and financial insights that enhance their decision making and support attainment of their goals
  • Serves as coach and mentor in support of professional development, employee engagement and retention
  • Reviews and posts monthly journal entries in support of accounting transactions and consolidation requirements
  • Monitors relevant US GAAP developments to ensure internal accounting policies are compliant
  • Prepares special reports and assists in special projects as assigned by the Controller and management team

What you’ll bring to the team

  • 5+ years of Accounting experience, Bachelor's degree required; degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent years of experience
  • CPA and/or public accounting experience is a plus
  • Proven track record in leading and motivating teams; must have prior supervising experience of at least a team of 3
  • Self-Motivated; strong attention to detail
  • Experienced MS Office applications, especially Excel
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Analytical skills along with the ability to create and present detailed reports to Senior Leadership
  • A track record of resolving accounting matters that avoid escalations and negative impacts on business
  • Ability to solve technical and operational accounting issues
  • Ability to interpret, apply, and explain internal policies and procedures to ensure organizational compliance
  • Skilled in US GAAP and management principles; familiar with IFRS
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
