The part you’ll play

As the Assistant Store Manager, you will assist with overseeing store operations at our Houston, TX store location. You will be responsible for achieving company objectives in profit and loss control, sales performance, customer satisfaction, and shrink results by supporting the Store Manager and overseeing the specific operational aspects of the store. The Assistant Store Manager will have a dotted-line responsibility for managing employees of the store in partnership with the Store Manager.

Essential Functions of this position include: 

  • Assists with managing sales performance to meet sales and margin goals
  • Assists with team scheduling management to always ensure adequate store coverage
  • Ensure efficient day-to-day operations of the store
  • Uphold Tennis Express standards for merchandise presentation and stockroom organization
  • Assists with holding associates accountable for meeting established operational guidelines, brand standards, customer service expectations, and company policies
  • Assists with on-boarding/training of hourly associates
  • Assists with driving shrink results through compliance to all guidelines involved with safety, loss prevention, and cash-handling procedures; may serve as store “Shrink Coach”

  • Assist with building a team excited about offering WOW Customer Service
  • Help customers find the right product in our store and assist with checkout
  • Proactively handle escalated situations and offer creative solutions
  • Maintain inventory levels in the store
  • Assist with training our staff in sales techniques and new product launches
  • Bring a positive attitude and strong work ethic to the workplace
  • Computer knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Flexible availability – including nights, weekend, and holidays

Work Environment

This position operates in a typical retail environment that requires frequent face-to-face interactions with customers. This role routinely uses computers and cash registers/credit card machines. The use of racquet stringing machines and related tools/supplies may also be required.

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to handle objects and type on a computer, use phones and computer software/cash registers to place customer orders and communicate with others to exchange information. The employee is frequently required to stand for prolonged periods of time and move about inside the building. Position may require standing for prolonged periods of time with use of hands/fingers while stringing racquets. The employee is sometimes required to sit, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch or climb.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects that weigh less than ten pounds, occasionally lift and/or move items that weigh between 11-20 pounds, and rarely lift and/or move items that weigh between 21-50 pounds.
